The island´s east coast
The east coast is far more developed for tourism with places like Lygia, Nikiana and Nydri. Here, the Ionian sea looks more like a large lake and the numerous small islands and pretty bays are very picturesque. A popular and diverse area for sailors. Nydri is the island´s most frequented holiday-resort. From here, you can take boat-trips to the islands lying opposite: Madouri, Sparti, Skorpidi and Skorpios, Onassis´ private island.
Vassiliki
The island´s southern-most village, in a sheltered bay and with pretty tavernas along the mole. Tourism doesn´t stop from intruding here either, but the atmosphere is very nice still. There is an extremely popular spot for surfing along a long pebble-beach where the ground in the water is sandy and you can stand as far as 100 m out). There are plenty of boat-trips on offer starting from Vassiliki and going to various beaches as well as ferries to Kefallonia and Ithaka, same as in Nydri
Sivota
From the main-road east of Vassiliki and leading north, there is fork leading to the sheltered bay of Sivota which is very popular as a natural marina and the in-place to go for eating fish
